HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Christian County High School Agriculture Department has kicked off their annual spring sale by stocking the campus greenhouse with an amazing variety of plants. Students and teachers in greenhouse technology classes run the sale through May 11 to raise funds for Future Farmers of America in Christian County.

“Both classes are responsible for propagating plants, potting plants, watering, caring for the plants as they grow, and pest management,” said Mattea Wyatt, a horticulture teacher at CCHS. “All their hard work over the past few months is what makes the greenhouse beautiful!”

Hundreds of plants and flowers are available for purchase in the CCHS greenhouse including hanging baskets with fuchsia and ferns, potted plants with petunias, salvia, sage, and herbs. Plus, succulents and house plants like aloe, cactus, and string of pearls to name a few.

In addition to raising money for FFA, Wyatt told Christian County Now the sale also provides important hands-on experience for students who are hoping to go into agriculture. They follow the entire process from growth to marketing and customer service, and plant care. These skills may come in handy even if students decide to pursue a different career path.

“Students can take the greenhouse skills they have learned and apply to their own life with plants and vegetables,” said Wyatt. “If the students do not go into a career that is plant based the students still have the opportunity to gain important employability skills in this class.”

Wyatt is hoping the community will come and support the student’s hard work. They will be open Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. On April 27 and May 11, they will be open from 8:30 a.m. until noon. The greenhouse is located around the back of the school near the baseball field at 220 Glass Avenue.
