CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A traffic stop led to drug trafficking charges for a Hopkinsville man after meth was found on his person at the Christian County Jail.

On March 3 around 6 p.m., deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at Greenville Road, with the driver found to have active warrants out for his arrest for failure to appear in court.

Identified as 37-year-old James Austin of Hopkinsville, the suspect was arrested and taken to the Christian County Jail. According to an arrest report from CCSO, he advised jail deputies that could not be placed in the body scanner due to pain from kidney stones.

Two baggies containing methamphetamine, and a loaded syringe with an unknown clear substance were removed by deputies. CCSO says these items were located “underneath his genitals.”

Due to the amount of meth found, Austin is being charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 2nd Offense or more. He is also being charged with Promoting Contraband 1st Degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Tampering with Physical Evidence and served two outstanding warrants.
