CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Christian County Military Affairs Committee hosted their annual Eagle Ambassador Breakfast on Feb. 25. Volunteers, Gold Star Families, service members, along with city and county officials gathered at Oak Grove Gaming, Racing & Hotel to celebrate the accomplishments of the MAC and discuss future goals.
Director of Military Affairs Shannon Lane said that he has always aspired to expand their reach throughout the region. During the breakfast he officially announced a title change for the MAC, which will now be known as the Southwestern Kentucky Military Affairs Committee.
“We all are just trying to come together to make sure that we make the biggest impact and give the loudest voice we can in advocacy for our military,” said Lane. He added that they are welcoming in four neighboring counties in partnership with Christian County, with prospects extending from Murray to Caldwell County.
Reasons for expanding the MAC, 2025 accomplishments
The goal of the MAC is to help enhance the community and make it an ideal place for military families to live, work, shop, and enjoy through various initiatives, events and resources. They were involved in over 100 events in 2025, several of which incorporated neighboring counties.
“It’s a very proud moment for me to stand here and say it’s officially here, it’s not something that has quietly been done overnight,” said Lane. “We’ve had officials from surrounding communities getting on the train and trying to be part of it because they knew that in their communities, their military populations are growing.”
Out of their many endeavors, MAC volunteers welcomed home hundreds of Fort Campbell soldiers while simultaneously supporting loved ones during homecomings. They also held their annual MAC Chili Cookoff, hosted the Veterans Day Parade, distributed turkeys to service members at Thanksgiving, and continued to build relationships and provide support with the military community.
“Today is more than a breakfast, it’s a celebration of unbreakable bonds. the unbreakable spirit of our troops, the unbreakable support of this community, and the unbreakable promise we make to show up for Fort Campbell and its families,” said MAC Chair Philip Eastman.
Those looking to support the MAC can become Eagle Ambassadors, which are individuals or organizations that make a monetary contribution to support their work.
