HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that all eleven counties in District 2, including Christian County, are making preparations for the arrival of a predicted winter weather expected to move through the region.

Pretreating activities began on Friday on state roads, according to a news release from KYTC. On Tuesday, they will continue to treat main routes with salt, and additional routes will be assessed depending on the conditions. Crews will remain on-call throughout the night to respond if and when they are needed with snowplows.

“Weather and roadway conditions can change fast,” said KYTC. “If you encounter a snowplow, please allow them plenty of room to safely work and remember that they may be moving slower than other traffic on the road.”

Hopkinsville Public Works Director Mike Perry told Christian County Now that the local department did not pretreat city roads due to the incoming rain showers that would dissolve any salt. However, he said that salt trucks are ready and will dispatch if road conditions worsen.

On Monday night, rain and snow showers, possibly mixed with freezing rain and sleet are possible overnight with a low of 26 degrees. The National Weather Service is predicting little or no ice accumulation, with less than half an inch of snow possible. Snow chances return Thursday night and into Friday.
