HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Christian County School Board approved several change orders for the construction of the new Christian County High School Thursday night, along with the purchase of additional school buses. They also discussed the upcoming arrival of new electric buses to the district.
Alliance Corporation Vice President Tim Geegan presented the board with three change orders to the consolidated Christian County High. These included two refunds, one for $59,000 and another for $15,000 for removing pipes. The last change order involved an additional cost of $3,453 to remove unsuitable soils.
“Given the scope of the site out there today, that is simply amazing,” said Geegan. “The amount of site work we have done, utilities we have put in, that is almost unheard of. We are well ahead of the curve of what’s done, and what is left to do.”
Parking lots, including blacktops, are scheduled to be completed soon as well, according to Geegan.
CCPS prepares for new school buses
The board also heard from CCPS Director of Transportation Mike Brumley who asked for $535,836 for three new school buses, which the board OK’d. Brumley also gave an update on the incoming electric buses that CCPS is receiving through a federal grant.
“The fencing is up, the concrete has been poured and the charging stations should be done within the next couple of weeks,” Brumley said. “We are hoping those are in play by August 26.”
Several board members had questions about the operation of the electric buses. Brumley reassured the board that all drivers will undergo specialized training, citing positive feedback from several districts already using electric buses.
