HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Christian County School Board approved the 2024-2025 working school year budget, along with paying $3.9 million to Alliance Corporation and contractors for the month of August at their board meeting Thursday night.
Finance Director Jessica Darnell says the $79 million general fund budget for CCPS covers salaries, transportation and administration costs. She notes that the district maintains a strong contingency fund, with 14%, or $12 million, set aside for unexpected costs.
“This is well above the required 2% and recommended 5% from the Kentucky Department of Education,” said Darnell.

The board also approved paying Alliance Corporation and contractors for the month of August a total of $3.9 million for the new high school. She added that so far, the district has paid 35% of the cost of construction for the consolidated high school.
Kevin Hithell with Alliance Corporation shared updates on the school, saying construction progress is going very well. “There has been a lot of good progress since I was here last,” said Hitchell. “We have the roof being dried in, in some big areas which is a really big milestone.”
Hitchell added that foundations are being poured this week at the Academy of Health and Services area.
