HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – With an unexpected amount of snowfall occurring Monday afternoon and into the evening, road conditions are not favorable as freezing temperatures linger.

Christian County Public Schools has alerted families that school is canceled on Dec. 3 due to black ice on the roadways, which poses a danger especially to students in northern Christian County. A news release from the school system specifies that it is a traditional snow day, there is NTI.

Although the sun will shine today, the National Weather Service says that temperatures will be well below what is normal for this time of the year. As the first snow of the season settles, temperatures will stay in or below 20 degrees all morning which is favorable conditions for the formation of black ice.

People are encouraged to use caution, especially around bridges and overpasses.
