CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Census data has revealed that Christian County comes in at number seven on a list of ten counties that saw the greatest recent population decreases in the entire United States.
According to a news release from the United States Census Bureau, Christian County Kentucky saw a 1.8% decrease in population between July 2024 and July 2025.
- 2024 population: 71,436
- 2025 population: 70,115
In their list of top ten counties by percent decline it shows that of these numbers are down from 2020 where the county saw a population of 72,799. This information reflects the Vintage 2025 population estimates that were released on March 26 by the U.S. Census Bureau. The bureau says these shifts were largely due to lower levels of net international migration (NIM), which declined nationwide.
Other counties on the top ten list include Taylor County in Florida at the top with a 2.2% decrease, followed by areas of Louisiana, California and Mississippi above Christian County. The counties included consist of populations of 20,000 or more.
Among the 2,066 counties that grew between 2023 and 2024, nearly 80% saw their growth slow or reverse direction in 2025. In many cases, counties already in decline saw increased losses, according to the news release.
