OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The City of Oak Grove is looking for several community members to fill positions in three of their local government boards including zoning adjustment, ethics board, and code enforcement.

Each board is looking for two residents to serve as a full or alternator member. Members will get paid a designated amount for each meeting they attend. Although there are no specific requirements, it is preferred each member has a background knowledge of city municipality, ordinances, and city regulations. Interested applicants also must be a resident of Oak Grove for at least one year and be able to attend meetings randomly.

The open position announcement follows public complaints from residents saying they are excluded from the inner workings of the city. The city council previously discussed the issue, saying they need more public support and involvement.

Councilmember Isaiah Spencer said the city holds several events throughout the year, along with two council meetings each month to reach the public, but attendance is minimal. “It starts in the boards,” said Spencer. “Usually, it is just council talking about what the city wants or needs, but we need to hear from other people.”

Interested applicants can submit a letter to Oak Grove City Hall, 8505 Pembroke Oak Grove Road, or by emailing the City Clerk at fisherl@oakgroveky.org. Each letter must contain your interest in joining, all qualifications, and a brief bio. Once applications are received, members will be appointed by the mayor with approval of city council.
