HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Clarksville man was arrested Monday night in Hopkinsville after leading police on a high-speed chase along Fort Campbell Blvd.
The pursuit was initiated when Hopkinsville Police tried to pull the 40-year-old driver over for making an improper lane change. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana. The suspect fled the scene, reaching speeds of 100 mph as he headed towards Russellville Road and tossing several bags of narcotics out the window. The chase ended when he lost control of his vehicle, stopping at the intersection of McLean Avenue and East Ninth Street.
According to a police report, a search of the vehicle revealed 19 grams of cocaine along with marijuana, wrapping papers, rubbers bands, baggies, and approximately $20,000 cash.
He was arrested and charged with first degree fleeing or evading police, first degree wanton endangerment, drug trafficking, drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, possession of marijuana, and several traffic charges.
