HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Members of the community, county school district, board members, educators and student representatives’ broke ground on what will soon be the new Christian County High School on Friday morning.

Superintendent Chris Bentzel, Governor Andy Beshear, and Board Chairman of Christian County Schools Tom Bell, all addressed the large crowd of gatherers.

“What truly makes this a historic day for Christian County Public Schools is the fact that this community and this school board made a decision that is best for kids,” Bentzel said.

Christian County High School will bring together career and technical education with traditional and college prep curriculum in one facility. “This will give students the opportunity to prepare for their future whether they go on to a four-year college or pursue work,” Beshear said. “It’s going to open up every career pathway for them.”

Inside, classrooms will be fully furnished with resources and technology that students may need.

Although the school is a major economic development, Beshear explains that so much more needs to be done. “We need to address the dire needs of all of our public school system,” Beshear said. “Our plan will provide an 11%, across the board, raise for every single public school system employee.” The plan will also cover universal preschool for four-year olds’.

The new Christian County High School is set to open in 2026.
