HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Hopkinsville man was charged with several counts after stealing a vehicle and leading police on a chase through major intersections on Saturday.

According to Hopkinsville Police Department, an officer was on the way to a possible burglary in progress when he saw a vehicle at Old Major Lane and Canton fail to stop and go airborne.

The vehicle headed eastbound on Pyle Lane, where the driver failed to stop at Pyle Lane and Millbrook. The 24-year-old driver veered into oncoming traffic several times, according to reports.

With officers in pursuit, the driver wrecked the SUV at Pyle and Cox Mill Road, where he jumped out to run. The suspect continued to run north on Cox Mill Road for about 50 yards before cutting through a backyard, where he finally surrendered.

The vehicle was found to be stolen and contained a stolen gun with restricted ammo. A background check led officers to find the suspect was a convicted felon, making it illegal for him to own a firearm.

The suspect was charged with reckless driving, disregarding a stop sign, first-degree fleeing or evading police with a motor vehicle, first-degree fleeing or evading police on foot, two charges of stolen property, possession of a handgun by convicted felon, and using restricted ammo during felony. He was arrested and transported to the Christian County Jail.
