HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is launching a new auto renewal system this month that requires offices to close.

A news release from the County Clerk’s Office in November said in preparation of the upcoming transition, all County Clerk’s offices in Kentucky will shut down for any automobile, boat, or handicap placard transactions for the first two weeks of January.

The existing, 40-year-old computer system will be updated to the new windows-based KAVIS system. The update began on Dec. 29, and they reopened Jan. 2 for all services except auto related transactions. The Elections Office, Deeds, and Administrative Offices are all still open, and transfer paperwork can also be reviewed.

Auto renewals will be available again on Jan. 16.
