HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Every Tuesday, the Dancing Darlings strap on their dancing shoes as Dixie Majors teaches them the latest steps, and Deana Power provides the tunes. The pair has been teaching line dancing in Hopkinsville for nine years and have no plans of stopping any time soon.

“We really consider it a ministry,” said Power. “For an hour and a half every Tuesday morning, we forget everything else. Our problems have no place here”

When they first began, there were only four women involved. Now there are 40 dedicated dancers that show up every week. They both fantasize about one day having a big, pink, Dancing Darlings tour bus and traveling around showing off their moves.

This fun group of darlings makes sure not to take themselves too seriously and prioritizes having fun over anything else while also getting good exercise and a sense of community. Majors told Christian County Now that dancing is in her blood. She has been dancing on and off for the majority of her life and is grateful to have this teaching outlet.

Majors explained that they may not know everything about each other, but they look out for one another especially if someone is ill or in need. She considers them all to be family.

They both encourage anyone interested to come out to the Christian County Senior Center and give it a try, or just watch during their first class. All classes are free, and open to whoever is interested, not just residents of Christian County. Get more information about class dates and times on the Dancing Darlings Facebook page.
