HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A man was arrested after he left a dog in a hot car, resulting in its death on Morris Circle in Hopkinsville.
On June 24, animal control officers requested assistance when they located a dog that was unresponsive inside an empty vehicle. According to a report from the Hopkinsville Police Department, the dog later died. At the time, a Heat Advisory had been issued as the heat index reached the triple digits.
An investigation led to the discovery of video footage from the area, which showed 38-year-old Antonio Attaway walking to the vehicle earlier that morning around 5:30 a.m.
The next day HPD made contact with the suspect, who told officers he left the dog in the car so that his friend could pick it up because he did not want it anymore. He also stated that the dog did not belong to him and was dropped off at his house without his knowledge.
He was arrested and is being charged with torture of a dog or cat, and cruelty to animals.
