HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Dollars for Dolly, a fundraising event for the Hopkinsville Christian County Imagination Library is officially open, and will last for the entire month.
Community members are encouraged to donate to the Dollars for Dolly boxes around town in local businesses, and the library. “People should donate because it only costs $26 a year to provide 12 books to a child for the Imagination Library,” explains Nickie Gaffney, Imagination Library coordinator.
This is the first time the library has done fundraising with Dollars for Dolly, and hopes to bring free books to children, from birth to age five. The goal of the Imagination Library is to inspire a lifelong love of reading and improve kindergarten readiness.
Back in 2021, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library did a review over 20 years of research and found that the Imagination Library is very successful in communities that is implemented in, according to Gaffney. “It shows promise in promoting literacy in the home, children’s attitudes towards reading, and early literacy skills,” Gaffney said.
