Dorothy Combs Berry, 89, of Hopkinsville, KY died Saturday, October 7, 2023, at her residence.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Second Baptist church in Hopkinsville with Reverend Hunter Hanson officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour at the church. Hughart, Beard and Giles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A native of Allegre, KY she was born June 8, 1934, the daughter of the late James Thomas McCraw and Virginia Law McCraw. She worked primarily as a food service worker but was also a foster care provider and was a bona fide homemaker, assisting in the build of many of the homes her family lived in. She was married to Howard Douglas Combs for over 40 years and together raised three children. After his passing she met and married George T. “Junior” Berry, Jr. Although she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a child, she was currently a member of Second Baptist Church and participated in the Open Door/Emanuel Sunday School Class. She was a former member of the Golden Sunshine.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Howard Combs; and two sisters: Elsie Boatwright, Bernie Morris and Helen Buie.
Survivors include her husband George T. “Junior” Berry: son: Gary Wayne (Nancy) Combs of Shalimar, Florida; daughters: Beverly (Dale) Taylor of Hopkinsville and Connie Towoda of Hopkinsville; bonus daughter: Dolores (Mike) Johnson of Greenbriar, Tennessee; brother: Ruben Leon McCraw of Hopkinsville; sister Geraldine (Billy) Mosley of Hopkinsville; three grandchildren; Sherry (Jeff), Melissa (Jimmy), Aaron (Katie) and two bonus grandchildren; Kasey; Mari Helen; three great grandchildren: Joseph; Chole; and Eva; two bonus great grandchildren; Nicole and Donavan; one great great grandchild: Ava; and one bonus great great grandchild Aidan.
