HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The 18th Annual Hopkinsville Soap Box Derby is quickly approaching on May 4, with multiple race day events to prepare drivers for the big day.
Annie Catron, President of the Bluegrass Youth Racing Foundation, shared her excitement about the upcoming event. This year, the Soap Box Derby will kick off with a fun day at Ruff Park on March 23 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Potential racers can climb into a soap box derby car and travel down the track to get a feel for being behind the wheel.
Along with the main event, the 12th Annual Super Kids Race will be held on May 3 at 6 p.m., following Soap Box Derby practice runs and a cookout for racers and families. Winners of the events on Friday and Saturday will have the opportunity to race at the 86th Annual International Soap Box Derby is Akron, Ohio.
Catron explained there are dozens of cars available for use this year, so purchasing a car is not necessary. The Bluegrass Youth Foundation will hold several build workshops to help racers customize their cars for the All American Soap Box Derby.
The Soap Box Derby is open to children ages seven to 20. Registration is on the Soap Box Derby website for $50, and is due by April 14.
