CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A crash on the interstate early Monday led to arrest of a drunk driver, who attempted to escape custody and called 911 on the arresting deputies.

On Oct. 20 around 1 a.m., deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 92-mile marker of I-24 westbound for a two-vehicle collision. It was determined that one of the drivers, 41-year-old North Carolina woman Reenada Perez, was manifestly under the influence of alcohol.

The operator of the other vehicle and a third-party witness both advised that the suspect was driving at a high rate of speed before the collision and was swerving on the roadway. The vehicle was sideswiped by the drunk driver, causing them to run off the road and hit around 40 yards of cable barrier, according to an arrest report.

When CCSO arrived, the suspect was cleared by EMS and underwent sobriety tests. The suspect disclosed that she had shots earlier at Longhorn Steakhouse, and she was placed under arrest. While being driven to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for a alcohol blood test, she attempted to escape custody by trying to remove the handcuffs.

While at the hospital, she managed to call 911 on her personal phone reporting a false emergency, claiming that the arresting deputy was not actually working for CCSO.

Perez is being charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree and Attempt Escape 3rd Degree.
