HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A vacant home on North Kentucky Avenue went up in flames early Friday morning, filling the area with plumes of smoke while the Hopkinsville Fire Department worked to extinguished it.
According to a statement from HFD, firefighters were alerted to smoke in the area just after 5 a.m. on June 20. Upon investigation, fire crews located the home on the 100 block of North Kentucky Avenue.
Initially, neighbors believed that people might be inside the home, but it was found to be vacant. HFD says they conducted an aggressive fire attack, and it was under control within 20 minutes of their response.
The exact cause of the fire is currently under investigation. This is the second fire in a vacant structure this month, with a separate fire destroying a home on Durrett Avenue in early June.
