HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A ribbon cutting for Southern Honey Boutique and Gifts this week marked the addition of another new business to East Sixth Street. This strip downtown continues to change and grow, and has deep historical roots.
The one-way street is home to several businesses, including Dark Star Games & Collectibles, White Flowers, 6th Street Antiques, Downtown Nutrition, 6th Street Boutique, The Mixer, Baked and now Southern Honey Boutique and Gifts. This new boutique shares a space with Baked, and brings even more charm to the street.
The new owner of the space, Cheyenne Bicksler, knows Hopkinsville well. With a husband working for the Hopkinsville Fire Department and ties to the business housed in the building before, she felt that this was the right space for her.
“The community down here has been super helpful and just nice,” Bicksler said. “It seems like more things are just popping up all the time, so I’m excited to be a part of that growth also.”
History of the street
The plaza area at the end of the street has been dedicated to Macaulay and Catherine Arthur for their years of service and dedication to the downtown renaissance district.
A placard near the area sums up their history: “The Arthurs began acquiring properties along East 6th St. in 1973. By 1983, they owned virtually the entire block. … Their significant contributions to the 6th St. district spearheaded many of the ongoing revitalization efforts being undertaken today.”
With the end of the street centered with the Christian County Clerk’s Office and cornered by the Alhambra Theater and Hopkinsville Brewing Company, it continues to be the bustling heart of downtown.
