HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The countdown to the total eclipse is on, with totality being reached at 1:58 p.m. on April 8. Paducah, Evansville, Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, Carbondale, and Mount Vernon are all in the path of totality, according to the National Weather Service.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is expecting massive traffic delays in the state as people flock towards Paducah to view the eclipse. In a news release, they said the most impacted roads will be in Western Kentucky along Interstate 24, Interstate 69, U.S. 41, and on the Pennyrile Parkway before, during and after the eclipse.
While Christian County is not in the path of totality, a partial solar eclipse will be visible. Christine Wielgos with the National Weather Service in Paducah told Christian County the partial eclipse will start around 12:45 p.m. and end around 3:19 p.m. on April 8. She also reminds people it will only be visible with special eclipse glasses.
