HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Harsh winter weather will continue through the county this weekend with freezing temperatures predicted linger. In addition, a light dusting of snow is expected to come through the Pennyrile region before noon on Friday, which is not expected to accumulate.
Another Cold Weather Advisory has been issued for Christian County, in effect all day on Saturday, Jan. 31. Extreme wind chills may drop temperatures to negative five degrees or lower in Hopkinsville, according to the National Weather Service. These conditions could quickly result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken, with residents encouraged to wear appropriate clothing while outside.

State, county, and city road crews have continually worked to clear multiple inches of snow and ice from roadways throughout the week, but the significant drop in temperatures may prevent previous accumulation from melting. This could possibly result in hazardous, slick conditions in neighborhoods, parking lots and driveways along with areas where plowed snow is sitting.
“We are still experiencing dangerously cold temperatures and windchills, which will continue through the week.” said Gov. Andy Beshear in a news release, who previously declared a State of Emergency for Kentucky due to the winter storm. “During those times, folks need to stay indoors as much as possible and limit outdoor exposure. Even 10 to 30 minutes outside can cause frostbite and hypothermia at the coldest of times. We also need Kentuckians to make sure they’re bringing their pets inside; this weather is just as dangerous for them.”
Temperatures will not reach the 30s again until Monday in Christian County, rising to the mid 40s on Tuesday. NWS is forecasting a possible chance for a light wintery mix of snow, sleet or freezing rain Tuesday night.
