HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – With the busy summer reading program at an end, the Hopkinsville-Christian County Library is now focused on regular programs, and a major renovation.

When walking into the Public Library, it is clear it’s a very welcoming environment for the community. Operations Director Elysa Parks proudly spoke about the space, “We definitely want it to be cozy, so we want it to feel like you can just sit and snuggle down and read a book. But we also want people to feel like it’s a place to have fun. We don’t like the stuffy, ‘it’s always silent’ libraries.”

Elysa encourages the community to check out the library’s Facebook page on a regular basis to stay updated with the new programs they have going on this fall. She credits their diverse programming to their dedicated staff, “We get very creative with our programing. A lot of the staff work on programs, and they all have such different interests, and they bring that into our programming schedule.”

Epic Hour is a weekly program that has recently been drawing in crowds. At 5 p.m. for one hour, there are activities set up for kids of all ages, up to 12th grade. Thursday Story Time for babies and their families is also consistently a big hit with community. Knitting club, Book Clubs, and open play time for littles are also great, free options for fun in Hopkinsville.

But, even with all of these programs, there is always room for growth. Elysa also spoke about the new, major renovation coming to the second floor of the library.

The renovations will bring a revamped community room, and the entire children’s department will have a new home upstairs as well. This expansion allows children, and children’s programing to have their own space, while leaving more room on the main floor.  Bid announcements will be made this fall, and people can expect to see these big changes in 2024.

The library is found at 1101 Bethel Street in Hopkinsville, KY, right in the heart of historic downtown. For more information about programs and the future of the library, go to the Hopkinsville-Christian County Library website, and follow them on Facebook.
