HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A woman is facing drug trafficking charges and several others after cocaine was found in her vehicle after shoplifting Monday night.

On Oct. 6 around 7:15 p.m., Hopkinsville Police were dispatched to the Dollar General on East Ninth Street in response to a shoplifter who had stolen false eyelashes valued at $4.77 and who had previously been trespassed from the store. Officers approached the 40-year-old female suspect, who was sitting in her vehicle illegally parked in a handicapped space. The arrest report from HPD noted that there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and the suspect showed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

During a search, a white powdery substance consistent with cocaine was found in her pocket, with suspected narcotics in plain view in the center console of the vehicle. The suspect jumped inside her vehicle and attempted to grab the narcotics and resisted removal. More cocaine in individually wrapped bags was found along with a scale and a small amount of marijuana.

Once inside the police cruiser, video evidence from the rear seat camera showed the suspect retrieving items from her person and putting them in her mouth, as well as stashing a cell phone under the seat.

She was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for clearance and was then transported to the Christian County Jail. She is facing nine charges including shoplifting, public intoxication, trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine), and resisting arrest.
