GOLDEN POND, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Families that want the adventure of finding and cutting down a Christmas tree can visit Land Between the Lakes this holiday season. The park is offering free Christmas tree permits and information that includes maps and cutting guidelines.
The free permit will allow people to cut one cedar tree between Nov. 24 and Dec. 24 in designated areas of the park.
“Taking the family out into the woods to look for the perfect Christmas tree is a great holiday tradition. Check along roadsides or within old forest openings to find your tree,” suggested Yvonne Antes, silviculturist at Land Between the Lakes. “The cedar tree program also helps Land Between the Lakes maintain open lands and promote diverse wildlife habitat.”
The trees chosen must be cedar, under 10 feet tall, with a stump of less than 4 inches tall left behind. The release also says the use of trucks, winches, tractors, or other heavy equipment is prohibited. Cutting rules and regulations can be found on the permits page. The permits will be exclusively available online on the Land Between the Lakes website beginning on Nov. 24.
