HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Construction of the new consolidated Christian County High School has hit a significant milestone, with the interior of the project making strides forward.
This first week that Christian County Public Schools welcomed back students, contractors with Alliance Co. installed the final beam inside of the new school. To commemorate the occasion, contractors along with Superintendent Chris Bentzel, Executive Principal Ken Carver, and district leaders added their signatures to the beam.

During the Aug. 21 Christian County Public Schools Board of Education meeting, it was shared that the project is moving steadily forward. Superintendent Chris Bentzel shared that during a recent walkthrough the structure, he was able to see basketball hoops being installed, with the air conditioning already up and running and everything was under roof.
As far as cost goes, the project is nearly 80% paid off, with the board making a $3 million payment to Alliance Co. during the meeting. With less than a year left of construction, Bentzel said they still have a healthy contingency fund for the project with over $4 million available if needed in addition to the already budgeted funds.
Bentzel also emphasized that the money for the new school is in “a separate pot of money” than the general fund and does not impact and is not impacted by the newly proposed tax rate.
