HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hopkinsville Fire Department was dispatched to a nursing home early Friday morning when a wall unit caught fire inside a bedroom.
Firefighters were alerted at 4:45 a.m. on Oct. 17 that there was a fire inside a resident’s room in the 300 wing of Bradford Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Highpoint Drive. Within three minutes, emergency crews arrived, finding and quickly suppressing the fire that was contained inside the room.
Facility staff safely evacuated a total of 16 residents, and one individual was treated by EMS and transported to the hospital due to chest pains unrelated to the fire. Staff members were assessed for smoke inhalation, and no injuries were reported.
According to HFD, the fire was caused due to an issue with the room’s wall mounted heating and cooling unit.
“We’d like to commend the staff of Bradford Heights for their quick and well-coordinated efforts in evacuating residents and helping to confine the fire to the bedroom,” said a news release from HFD. “Their swift actions certainly were a difference maker.”
