HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – As the community preps fireworks displays for next few days, the dangerous heat and potential storms may affect Fourth of July celebrations.

The National Weather Service has placed Christian County under a heat advisory for July 3 between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m., with the heat index rising to 109 degrees. Heading into July 4, the heat index will sit at around 107 degrees, with a 70% chance of rain during the day and storms possible overnight.

Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation is prepping for their Red, White, & Oooh! Community Fireworks Show on Thursday night, with festivities kicking off at 7 p.m. Rachel Sanders with the department told Christian County Now this will be a rain or shine event as long as the conditions are not hazardous.

Here’s the fireworks forecast for this Fourth of July.

  • Today: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Sunny, with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 107. Southwest wind 6 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.
  • Tonight: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 10pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 75. Light and variable wind.
  • Independence Day: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 107. Light and variable wind becoming south southwest around 6 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
  • Thursday night: A 50%chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Light southwest wind.
