HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – With multiple days of events already passing by at the Western Kentucky State Fair in Hopkinsville, more fun is still had as rides continue, and the fair’s first ever hot dog eat champion was named.

Amid the contest, the seventh night of the fair continued on with dozens of rides, vendors, and attractions. Also on Wednesday night was the 4-H/FFA Sheep Show, petting zoo, a kids pedal pull competition, and mini outlaw pulls.

Six novice participants, who had never attempted a hot dog eating contest before, anxiously sat through the bluegrass performance of Cutter & Cash in the state fair convention center, waiting for their chance to hop on the stage.

The rules were simple; each individual was given a tray of ten hot dogs and had ten minutes to eat as many as they could. Some ran laps around the building to hype themselves up, with friends and family in the audience to cheer them on. After time was up, the champion won by a single bite, managing to consume four the three quarters hot dogs in the allotted time.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever been to this fair, and I was hungry,” said winner Walker Sniegowski, who is a soldier stationed at Fort Campbell. “In ten minutes, I was surprised that I ate that many. That was rough!”

The fair will continue in Hopkinsville through Saturday, June 28. More 4-H/FFA competitions are on the way, along with nightly tractor pull events, a cornhole tournament, and UCW wrestling. Find a full schedule of fair events on the Western Kentucky State Fair website.
