HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A wire fraud investigation by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office has led to the arrest of a Florida man.
On Dec. 30, Robert Casais of Naples, Florida was arrested and extradited following an investigation by local deputies into a wire fraud incident involving a local business. A news release from CCSO says the business’s computer systems were compromised, resulting in a fraudulent wire transfer.
Deputies say the crime was discovered when the business did not receive a substantial payment that was expected. The investigation determined the altered communications appeared legitimate, and funds were traced through multiple financial accounts, including a cryptocurrency exchange.
Detectives collaborated with law enforcement in Collier County, Florida, leading to the arrest and extradition of the 72-year-old suspect. He is currently lodged at the Christian County Jail and is facing a criminal forgery charge along with receiving stolen property over $10,000 and unlawful access to a computer. CCSO says the investigation remains ongoing.
