FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Fort Campbell High football team will look to fight their way back into the postseason following their 2022-23 playoff run, which was their first appearance since 2019.

The Falcons compiled a record of 4-7 and punched their ticket to the playoffs by defeating Ballard Memorial 38-6. However, during the first round of postseason play, Fort Campbell was eliminated by Owensboro Catholic.

Falcons head coach Henry Mitchell is looking for his team to take it one game at a time. As the 2023 season kicks off, Mitchell said the biggest difference is attendance and the growth of his team.

Mitchell said that last season, on a good day, they would have around 20 student-athletes practicing during the summer. Those numbers have more than doubled throughout this off-season.

Mitchell said Fort Campbell’s identify will be built around competing each and every week, while letting their play on the field do all of the talking.

The head coach has been impressed with his linebacking core so far this year, which includes sophomore middle linebacker Keshawn Dixon. Mitchell said he expects Dixon to make just as much of an impact on offense as the team’s starting running back.

Mitchell also has high expectations for offensive playmakers such as wide receiver Maurice Moore and starting quarterback Jonah Weisbrich.

Interestingly enough, Weisbrich served as an athletic trainer for the Falcons before deciding to step on the field and take control of the team’s offense.

Offensive and defensive philosophy

Mitchell said Fort Campbell’s offense will not be built around one specific system, rather, it’ll be multi-faceted. The head coach expects their offensive unit to have a balanced attack when it comes to rushing and throwing the ball.

As for their defensive system, the Falcons will utilize out of a hybrid 3-4 base formation under new defensive coordinator Anthony Shingler.

Mitchell said that he and Shingler served as assistants together for Fort Campbell High and Rossview High previously.
