HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A soldier with the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade has been arrested and charged in connection to a person being shot multiple times outside of Rural King in Hopkinsville Monday afternoon.
CCTV footage obtained by the Hopkinsville Police Department shows 39-year-old Jamario Johnson of Fort Campbell walking out of the store on with the victim on June 29, who is identified as John Walker. When they got to his vehicle, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot Walker in the groin, according to an arrest report.

Johnson chased the victim the area around the exterior of the store, firing several more shots and striking Walker a total of three times. When located by officers, Johnson was walking back to the front of the store with one hand in the air and one hand by his side with the gun. He was detained by HPD and transported to the Christian County Jail. Johnson is currently being charged with assault in the first degree.
A spokesperson with the 101st Airborne Division has confirmed that Johnson is a Staff Sgt. assigned to the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade saying, “The Command is cooperating with local law enforcement regarding this matter.”
An initial statement from HPD after the shooting occurred said two suspects were detained, but Johnson is the only one charged at this time.
