HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – During the Fort Care Honor Package Grocery Giveaway on Dec. 5, thousands of local veterans were provided with delicious holiday meal boxes. Volunteers from across the community spent the day with Fort Care loading up cars with donated food at Liberty Chapel on Fort Campbell. The organization frequently facilitates meal distribution events for local military families.
Shana Armstrong, Fort Care team director, said they were able to distribute spiral ham slices, cereals, fresh produce, water, coffee, drinks, gravy, stuffing, and turkeys. The Oak Grove Walmart donated the turkeys and stuffing, and the management team came out to help load the packages during the event to a steady stream of vehicles.
“A very special thank you to all the soldiers for donating their time through the Community Service Program on the military base, without all their help we could not do this,” Armstrong added. Garrison Chaplin Robinson and his staff also worked with volunteers, and military police officers provided traffic control in a true community effort.
Also involved was Kentucky Hunters for the Hungry, Lone Oak Custom Butchering, Smokers Meats, and YAIPAK. According to Fort Care, the Kentucky Hunters for the Hungry Program collaborated with Amish Butcher Shops and Livingston Meats to process and donate deer meat as well.
