FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The local nonprofit Fort Care was able to distribute groceries to over 5,000 military families, with the Fort Campbell and Christian County community supporting by volunteering and providing food.

During the Fort Care Honor Package Giveaway on Dec. 11, several thousand deer meat logs were given out, along with chicken, turkey, and an assortment of other grocery items ahead of the holidays. The distribution was held on the Parade Field on Fort Campbel, where Fort Care volunteers and the Oak Grove Chief of Police worked alongside active-duty soldiers and veterans to load cars with food.

While the nonprofit regularly hosts Honor Package Giveaways, they recently held a special distribution in October to assist military families during the government shutdown. The nonprofit was founded in 2019 by Ron Fahy, who frequently partners with Fort Campbell and Oak Grove to support local veterans and military families.

Food donations for the recent distribution were provided by several organizations including Feeding America First, Kentucky Deer Hunters Club, Livingston Meats, Oak Ridge Country Store, Walmart of Hopkinsville, Walmart of Oak Grove, and Yaipak.
