HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Hopkinsville Fire Department hosting a free Citizens Fire Academy this summer, providing the community with an exclusive opportunity to see the inner workings of how local firefighters and emergency personnel operate.

Each of the four weeks of the academy will have a different focus, starting with a tour and overview of Fire Station 5 and talks about station life and gear. Participants will also learn about search and rescue, EMS operations, medical emergencies, and hands-on skills with live drills and demonstrations. There will be a graduation at the end of the program.

HFD says the academy is designed to give citizens a behind-the-scenes look at Hopkinsville Fire/EMS operations and community safety efforts while allowing the community to experience serving alongside local emergency responders.

This program is free and open to anyone over the age of 18 with limited slots available. Sessions will be held at 101 Walton Way every Monday from July 13 to August 3 from 6-8:30 p.m. People are able to register on the Hopkinsville Fire Department website.
