HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – With the eclipse just days away, there are a few special events planned around Christian County. Totality will be reached at 1:58 p.m. on April 8 and although Christian County is not in the path of totality, a partial solar eclipse will be visible.
Christine Wielgos with the National Weather Service in Paducah told Christian County the partial eclipse will start around 12:45 p.m. and end at 3:19 p.m., peaking around 2 p.m. The eclipse can only be viewed with certified eclipse glasses.
Here are eclipse activities planned in Hopkinsville.
Christian County Animal Shelter: On April 6, all black animals can be adopted with no charge in honor of the eclipse at the shelter.
Total Eclipse Kickoff: Kick off the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse at Casey Jones Distillery. They will be releasing a very special Total Eclipse Barrel Cut with FREE live music and a food truck. They will also be open on Eclipse Day from 10:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.
City of Hopkinsville eclipse watch party: The community is invited to gather at the Hopkinsville Visitor’s Center from noon until 4 p.m. for fun activities and to view the eclipse with friends. Food trucks, crafts, snacks, games, music, and a simple sense of community are on the agenda for the afternoon.
