Freedom Elementary School names Monique Lewis as new principal

Lewis most recently served as the assistant principal for the school and was appointed Tuesday by Freedom Elementary’s Site-Based Decision Making Council.

HOPKINSVILLE, KY – On Tuesday, Freedom Elementary’s Site-Based Decision Making Council met with Superintendent Chris Bentzel and after consultation, affirmed Monique Lewis as principal. The council was in full agreement with Mr. Bentzel’s choice to hire Mrs. Lewis as principal. A graduate of Hopkinsville High School, Mrs. Lewis most recently served as the assistant principal for the school.

“We are excited to welcome Ms. Lewis as principal at Freedom Elementary,” said Superintendent Chris Bentzel. “Mrs. Lewis has been instrumental in the ongoing turnaround process at Freedom Elementary, making significant strides in both the school’s performance and culture. She has built strong relationships with students and staff, and has established a solid foundation in instructional leadership, staff development, and community engagement—key areas that are essential for the role of principal. Her contributions have laid the groundwork for continued success at Freedom Elementary.”

Lewis began her teaching career in 1998 with Christian County Public Schools. The first 24 years of her career, she taught at Belmont Elementary, Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, and Sinking Fork Elementary. In 2022, she transitioned to an administrative role, joining the leadership team at Freedom Elementary School as assistant principal. A proud graduate of Murray State University, Mrs. Lewis holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in instructional leadership and Rank I certification.

“I am honored to be chosen as the next principal and look forward to continuing the work at Freedom Elementary,” said Monique Lewis. “I am committed to building on the progress we’ve made and creating an environment where both students and staff can achieve their fullest potential. The future is bright at Freedom Elementary, and I am excited to work alongside our dedicated staff, students, and community to make that vision a reality.”

Lewis and her husband David reside in Hopkinsville.
