HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Oak Grove City Councilmembers discussed goals for the city during the Oct. 21 meeting. Each of the six officials shared their top five priorities of what needs to be enacted for progress in the city, ranging from road improvements and housing to parks and flooding.
The following topics were brought up.
- Flood mitigation for Shadow Ridge.
- Move police station to current city hall, create new city hall.
- Parking structure for emergency shelter.
- Creating gathering space for residents.
- Improve public safety, create new fire station and add additional firefighters.
- Improving parks.
- Traffic congestion, Hugh Hunter Road improvements, general infrastructure.
- Create strategic plan for city.
- Encourage economic development and add additional revenue source for city.
- Building high-quality, high-end housing.
“I agree with you all, we need everything that everyone has said,” Councilmember Richard Baker said during the meeting. “We are going to have to work together.” Baker also pointed out that several of the items mentioned were already in motion in the city, adding that some of the goals like the new city hall and parking lot have significant financial barriers.
While they all agreed on the proposed goals, the unstructured discussion resulted in councilmembers expressing the need for additional discussion to solidify plans to execute these goals. No action was taken.
