Gerald Meier “Jerry” Brenchley, 85, of White Plains, Kentucky passed away peacefully on April 23, 2024 following a brief illness.
Jerry was born on May 14, 1938 to Gerald King Brenchley and Beatrice Meier Brenchley in Ouaquaga, New York. He grew up in Halsey Valley, NY. Jerry graduated high school and went on to earn a B.S in Agriculture from Cornell University. He worked as a farmhand for a local dairy.
Jerry met Mildred Hurst “Millie” Smith and they were married on November 28, 1959. They had two children, Roy Gerald Brenchley and Linda Brenchley. Jerry moved to Windsor, NY and began working as an A.I. Technician for the local dairy industry. Following a move to Doraville, NY, he concurrently ran a commercial vegetable farm for 8 years. While making an impact on the local agricultural community, Jerry also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, motorcycle riding, blacksmith work, listening to Yankee baseball games, trail walking, and traveling. He was an avid reader throughout his life and was musically inclined- singing, playing guitar, banjo, and the organ.
In the late 80’s Jerry and Millie moved to Crofton, Kentucky, where he ran a hog farm for many years. Upton retiring from farming, he began driving for the local Amish community. Jerry enjoyed this work immensely and continued it part-time nearly up until his death.
Jerry was a faithful member of the Plainview Mennonite Church. He made good friends throughout both the Mennonite and Amish communities and will be missed greatly by all.
Jerry was preceded in death by Mildred Hurst Brenchley (spouse), Roy Gerald Brenchley (son), Gerald King Brenchley (father), and Beatrice Meier Brenchley (mother).
He is survived by Linda Brenchley (daughter) of Knoxville, TN, Helga Brenchley (daughter-in-law) of Germany, Lucas Brenchley (grandson) of Germany, Sara Brenchley (granddaughter) of Germany, Lisa Medon O’Brien (niece) of Russellville, AR, nephew Richard Medon (Margaret) of Corning, NY, Tom Medon (nephew), William Ranson (nephew) of Lenoxville, PA, David Ransom (nephew) of Lenoxville, PA and sister Ann Ransom (Jim) of Lenoxville, PA.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Crofton Amish Church Community at located 1304 Crofton Dawson Road, Crofton, KY 42217. Burial will follow in Ridgetop Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Dogwood Funerals & Cremations of Crofton.
