HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A new take on a previous business has opened its doors in downtown Hopkinsville as locally owned Grizzy Up Soap Co. settles in. Owned by husband-and-wife team Travis and Chasity Allcock, the aromatic store offers homemade soap products utilizing goat milk and other natural ingredients.
“A buddy of mine I used to work with in heavy equipment used to always tell me ‘If you’re going to be a bear, be a grizzly’…me and my wife kind of adopted that,” said Travis, explaining the phrase that inspired their branding. While his previous work experience focused on coal mining and construction, together the couple has quickly picked up the art of soap making.

Despite this new venture, they are no stranger to a recipe due to Chasity’s experience with her in home sourdough bakery. This first venture was pursued as a way to keep busy following the death of their three-year-old daughter. Her success gave them the confidence to pursue Grizzly Up.
“It’s been cool to learn, it’s been a very neat process,” Travis told Christian County Now. “She’s got recipes for all her bread, and we’ve got recipes for all of our soap so it just kind of goes together.”
With the support from their family and a warm welcome from surrounding businesses downtown, in just a few short months they have learned to make their own natural soaps and opened up to customers. Their wide range of products are made for every member of the family ranging from beard oil and beer soap to bath soaks, body butter, detergent, and soaps of fun shapes and colors.

Since they opened, the storefront has become a family shop, with their son making himself at home, and the owner’s parents helping out as needed. While the bakery and the soap products will remain separate for now, Travis and Chasity have plans to grow the store in future. This includes the potential for a Daddy Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear product lines as well as expanding into the upstairs space to host parties.
“Everybody that has come in has loved it and they are excited we are keeping the soap store going,” said Travis. Their entire product line is available on the Grizzly Up website for purchase as well as in the store at 200 East Ninth Street. Customers are able to fill custom orders for party gifts, custom candle pouring, custom scents, gift baskets and more.
