HOPKINSVILLE, KY – Hopkinsville Community College has announced the opening of its newly renovated Steve and Diane Thomas S.M.A.R.T. Lab, a two-story, reimagined technical lab designed to serve as a hub for hands-on learning in high-demand career fields.
The lab is named for Steve and Diane Thomas, whose historic $400,000 gift is the largest individual contribution in the college’s history. The $97,000 renovation was paid for with the college’s general project funds, while the Thomas gift will support ongoing technical program enhancements well into the future.
The Thomas S.M.A.R.T. Lab is located in the Technology Center and will house cutting-edge equipment, supplies, and tools that ensure students gain real-world experience with the latest industry technology. The lab will support programs including HVAC, Industrial Maintenance, and Electrical Technology, among others, and will stand as a lasting tribute to the Thomases’ investment in the region’s workforce.
“This transformative gift allows us to create a dynamic learning environment that will prepare students for successful careers while meeting the technical training needs of our industry partners,” said Dr. Alissa Young, HCC president/CEO.
