HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Flu vaccinations at the Health Department in Hopkinsville are now available for the community.
Shots are administered at the Christian County Health Department during regular business hours. In addition to the regular vaccine, they are also offering a high dose vaccine for those who are over the age of 65. No appointments are necessary, and the cost is $30. Insurance is also accepted to cover the cost with an insurance card.
As we head into flu season, the health department clinic manager Jennifer Cail describes the importance of yearly vaccinations: “It’s important to get your yearly flu vaccination to obtain optimum immunity to flu. … The intent of the flu vaccination is to provide immunity during the flu season (October-March). The vaccine is not intended or manufactured to provide 12 month protection, which also is due to the fact that the flu virus mutates and changes each year.”
COVID-19 vaccines are also important for this time of year, but the health department is still awaiting delivery of the new, updated vaccines. They said in a Facebook post, “We hope to have new COVID-19 vaccines and be able to administer those in the next couple of weeks. We will keep the public updated and update local media and community partners when we can begin administering those vaccines.”
To get vaccinated, visit the Health Department at 1700 Canton Street in Hopkinsville. Find more information about what they offer on their website.
