FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – One soldier was killed and another seriously injured in a helicopter training incident on post Wednesday night.

At about 7 p.m. there was an incident with a helicopter in the Fort Campbell training area, according to a 101st Airborne Division news release.

Emergency services responded immediately. One soldier was confirmed deceased, and the other was evacuated to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital and was in stable condition Thursday morning. Their names have not yet been released.

Fort Campbell has not specified the type of helicopter or said whether the helicopter crashed. The incident is under investigation.

Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight has issued the following statement in response to the incident, “On behalf of the City of Hopkinsville, I extend my deepest condolences to the family of the servicemember who lost their life in last night’s aviation incident. Our thoughts are also with the injured soldier, and we pray for a full recovery. The city offers its full support and assistance to the 101st Airborne Division and the entire Fort Campbell community during this difficult time.”
