HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Two young men were arrested in Hopkinsville when a mid-day high speed pursuit resulted in a crash, foot chase, and attempted carjacking.

Officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department initially responded to a stolen vehicle that was spotted on Lafayette Road on Jan. 16. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop and block the vehicle from leaving a gas station, but the vehicle and the two suspects inside evaded police and initiated a pursuit.

An arrest report from HPD details that during the pursuit, the vehicle swerved in and out of traffic and drove in opposite lanes of the roadway. They also repeatedly drove on the shoulder, reaching speeds upward of 100 mph. A PIT maneuver was attempted, but the vehicle did not come to a complete stop until it struck the rear axle of a tractor trailer at the intersection of Eagle Way and Fort Campbell Boulevard just before 2 p.m.

After the crash occurred, the driver and the passenger exited the vehicle, ran toward the nearby White’s Auto Mall and climbed over a fence. The passenger, identified as 19-year-old Quintin Benson of Virgina, was seen throwing a loaded firearm onto the ground as he ran.

They were both located at the Jennie Stuart Health Blue Creek parking lot, tried to enter an occupied vehicle that had children inside of it. The other suspect, 20-year-old Donald Brown of Tennessee, was armed with a gun during the attempted carjacking.

With the assistance of a K9 unit, both of the men were arrested and were transported to the Christian County Jail. Combined they are facing various vehicular charges related to fleeing along with attempted carjacking and receiving stolen property.
