HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Basketball star Arnika Brown who got her start at Christian County High School has been recognized by the city with a newly erected street sign sharing her legacy.

Currently residing in New York, Brown made an appearance for the unveiling surrounded by friends and family along with Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight. Her list of athletic accomplishments began during her time spent at Christian County High School when she was inducted into the Kentucky High School Hall of Fame and her jersey was retired in 2016. Between the years 2000-2006, she scored 1,779 points for the Lady Colonels, while also gathering significant track and field accomplishments. She went on to play for Western Kentucky University, setting records and scoring over 1,000 points while there.

“To the citizens of Hopkinsville, Kentucky thank you for your love and support over the years,” said Brown in a public statement. “To Mayor Knight and your team, thanks for giving me my flowers while I am living. I appreciate you and all the work that you’ve done and will continue to do for Hopkinsville, it doesn’t go unnoticed.”

Located by the intersection of Lovers Lane and Fort Campbell Boulevard, right next to the new Christian County High School location, the sign says, “Home of Arnika Brown, 2016 Kentucky All-Star Hall of Fame Inductee, 2006 Miss Kentucky Basketball.” Beyond that, she has gathered over 17 years of experience in high school, college, and professional sports, also expanded out into coaching, spending time with girls’ basketball teams at Hopkinsville and Fort Campbell High Schools.

“Arnika’s journey is a testament to hard work and excellence, her story continues to inspire individuals within our community and beyond,” said Hopkinsville councilmember Brittanie Bogard. She hopes this dedication will honor Brown while also encouraging the next generation of young athletes.
