HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – While a lot of people enjoy ringing in the New Year with a backyard fireworks display, the city does have regulations and ordinances in place for the holiday.

New Years and Fourth of July are the two holidays where fireworks are permitted within city limits. Fireworks can be used on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 starting at 10 a.m. and ending a little past midnight at 12:30 a.m.

Payton Rogers with the Hopkinsville Fire Department says safety is a top priority as well, “Never allow children to play around, or light fireworks, keep a bucket of water handy nearby, never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not ignited fully. Light fireworks one at a time, always.”

Rogers also mentioned the importance of not being under the influence of drugs or alcohol while setting off fireworks.

The City of Hopkinsville website lists regulations and safety reminders that go along with the Hopkinsville Code of Ordinances Chapter 101 and KRS Chapter 227.
