Update: The HES/Energy Net Night Christmas Parade has been moved to Saturday, Dec. 16. The decision has come as a result of the weather forecast for the upcoming weekend continuing to predict thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy rainfall.
“We understand that rescheduling a large-scale event like the Christmas Parade can inconvenience community members, but our priority is making sure everyone remains safe while having an enjoyable time,” says Parks and Recreation Superintendent Toby Hudson.
Mayor James R. Knight expressed his support for the decision saying, “The decision to postpone the parade due to the weather is the smart choice. We don’t want anyone out in the rain and storms and getting sick or hurt,” according to a press release from Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation.
All other previously released information regarding the parade is transferable to the new date. The route, time, participants, and road closures will not change. The Community Christmas Tree Lighting will still be held on December 8th.

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Possible severe weather on Saturday afternoon has the potential to interfere with the HES/Energy Net Night Christmas Parade. The parade is set to begin at 5:15 p.m., and the National Weather Service is predicting possible thunderstorms in the afternoon.
A news release from Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation reiterates that the parade is a rain or shine event, so it will go on despite any rain. Severe storms would be another matter. The staff has been monitoring the weather all week.
“As we do with all our events, we will continue to closely follow the weather today and tomorrow to make any necessary decisions,” Superintendent Toby Hudson said. “We will see what the weather does and hope for clearing skies.”
If conditions get hazardous, an announcement will be made.
