HOPKINSVILLE, KY – The Madisonville Community College and Hopkinsville Community College surgical technology program earned first place in the annual “Scrub Bowl” competition held recently at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College in Bowling Green.

During the competition, Program Director Aaron Morris was accompanied by Bailey Newman, Jordan Sykes, Alyssa Fama, Candice Rose, Keichelle Dascent, Abbie Johnson. Along with Clinical Coordinator Amber Campbell, Carlie Peek, Gabriella Berkvens, Jennifer Sewell, Madison Graham, Alexandria Jones, and Sonny Pointer.

This trivia-style event, which is part of the Association of Surgical Technologists Kentucky State Annual Conference, brings together surgical technology students from across the state to test their knowledge and prepare for their upcoming certification exams. This year marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time the Madisonville and Hopkinsville team has taken home the top prize.

The MCC/HCC surgical technology program is a joint effort between the two colleges to fulfill the need for skilled surgical technologists within the Pennyrile region. Applications for the 2025-2026 cohort are due by May 1. Classes begin in August.
