HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Hopkinsville Human Rights Commission is hosting a march for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 20. The march will begin at 10 a.m. at Freedom Elementary School, and the public is invited to attend alongside community members.

Afterwards, the march will conclude at the Hopkinsville Community College Auditorium Building where a program will follow. This year’s speaker is Nicole Poindexter, the Director of Full-Service Community Schools for Christian County Public Schools.

Alongside the march, HRC is hosting a MLK Day Art Contest. All students in Christian County were invited to submit original artwork centered around the holiday. Submissions must be mailed or dropped off at the HRC Office, 715 South Virginia Street by Jan. 15. Artists must include their name, school, and grade level on their canvas piece.

Prizes will be awarded in four different grade categories, and a ceremony will take place at The Alhambra Theatre for winners.
